Yoshio “Tony” Kobayahshi is a drummer who loves cassette tapes. He was born in Nagano, Japan, and started playing drums when he was fifteen. He came to New York City in 1997 and began working in jazz, Carribbean and dub style music. After he was inspired by Fela Kuti, he joined the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble to start digging Afrobeat music and roots of African spirits. Among Yoshio’s other projects are Dub Nomads, Akoya Afrobeat, 47.5, and Main Space, as well as a number of studio sessions.
